BC - Global Supplier of Choice

It may seem counter-intuitive, given the current economy, for the British Columbia forest sector to be optimistic. Even for an industry used to the highs and lows of economic cycles, the current challenges are especially severe.

There are good reasons to be optimistic about the BC forest industry.

But there are reasons to believe that BC will not only continue to weather its difficulties, but ultimately flourish as the global economy changes. Increasing demand-both for wood products and renewable energy sources-is only part of the story. As demand rises, pressure on the world's natural resources will likewise increase and preference will be given to suppliers, such as those in BC, which can demonstrate the sustainability of their practices.

BC's forest industry also has the advantage of high quality wood products, made with state-of-the-art sawmilling and wood processing technologies, supported by world-class research and development facilities. Our long history of forestry and lumber production has resulted in a large and skilled workforce, and our commitment to innovation will contribute both to economic growth and increased job security.

Each of the subjects in this section offers a different reason for optimism. Collectively, they illustrate why BC's forest sector is the global supplier of choice.
